A national symbol of loss, tradition and Welsh life
For years, Yr Ysgwrn was one of the many traditional Welsh farmhouses that dotted the rural north Wales landscape. In 1917, however, it became a symbol of a generation in the aftermath of Hedd Wyn’s tragic story.
Since then, Yr Ysgwrn not only reflects the tragedy of war and loss, but the Welsh-language bardic tradition and rural Welsh life at the turn of the 20th century.
